This piece is world-shaking. Never have I been glued to a piece of fiction on this app before. I’ve never before fancied myself the type to enjoy theatrical writing, but this is a totally different beast.
Your style of writing clearly conveys all the psychological and philosophical fiction you consume; I can’t believe how deftly you handled such a complicated storytelling method! If you ever decide to write a book, I’ll be on the pre-order list 🔥
I also want to mention that I felt a tender connection with the Director in how he imagines stories playing out before him while going about his quotidian activities. I myself have a habit of daydreaming and it’s incredibly validating to see that brought to life in your character, even if just for a few lines. :)
Thank you so much! Firstly, I really appreciate you taking the time to read and comment. This was my first time writing in the script/play format, so I'm stoked to hear this! And I'm super pleased you connected to the Director. I gave both characters rich inner worlds because I wanted to convey the universalism of my themes, to show how, even though (from the Writer's perspective) the Director is somewhat cold, he still has his own shit he's dealing with. Thanks again for reading :)
Of course! If I'm honest, your posts on Instagram were the genesis of my decision to deepen my writing craft on Substack. I've made a lot of connections on this platform and I'd like to express my gratitude for the inspiration you gave me. :)
Please keep this work up; it's always nice to read something so moving in the mornings. Good luck!
What and How you wrote this, felt fresh as If I was able to catch an early sunrise after a long time. It felt like you wrote is as if you were writing it for me. It was personal. It left enough room for me to pour in my imagination but it was also efficiently rigid to let it not leak out into abstract nothingness. The imaginative endeavors within the mind of the Writer and Director played out as actual texts from a book and scenes from a movie respectively. It was unique but it was easy.
Hello Shaye. Andrew from Las Vegas here. Big fan, enthralled by your voice, captivated by your driving daemon. I want to be counted among the trusted beta readers of your novel when you are ready to enlist them. How can I earn your trust? your confidence? your belief in my value to you? You do not know me, of course. I am nothing more than the generic unknown, an anonymous ear from nowhere, a parasocial stranger. Think of me, therefore, as the sky, "the closest thing to another person." Because I feel your language, I think I understand you. For what it's worth. Credentials, etc... available at your request. Happy wrestling today: you, as non-entity, vs nothing, as Void!
Thank you! I'm a long way off from requiring beta readers, but when I do I'll certainly be looking for people who will understand what I'm trying to create. Shoot me a message on Instagram (@shayebytheshore) with your email, and I'll reach out when it's time :)

This is really very good, reminds me of Don Delilo’s voice but better!
Huge compliment! Love DeLillo <3

Shaye, I am completely blown away. I am awe-struck.
I want to live inside your brain as you come up with masterpieces like this.
Forget masterpieces. I want to live inside your brain as you write your grocery lists.
Ah thank you so much! I can promise my grocery lists are the same as everyone's haha thanks again <3
this is honestly one of the best thing i've read on here. i don't have enough brain power right now to elaborate but just, wow.
Oh, thank you so much! I'm so flattered!
